WordPress run a weekly photo challenge and this week the theme is:
Contrasts – Light and dark, tall and short, happy and sad — this week, share a shot that captures a contrast.
Thinking light and dark, I couldn’t resist another hen – Here’s our lonesome Silver Campine who never discovered a better name than Campine! I love the black and white contrast through her fan tail and the way her black beady eyes contrast with her red comb. She’s quite a character laying in secret all over the garden – never in the same nest once it has been discovered. I swear she can count because if you do find a nest and start sneaking eggs out (always being careful to leave a few) she ups stick and starts the game of hide and seek all over again. I also dug this picture of an unusual sheep, out of my archives – I haven’t managed to identify the breed so if anyone knows, I would be delighted to hear.

I love the contrast. The hen is as clever as she is beautiful. Why the name?

We tried Wimple as a name but she’s no hen of devotion! Time just marched on and she has become her breed, a bit the way our son is often known very affectionately as ‘the boy’.

Proves I don’t know much about hens! Although I was the champion chicken catcher in my family when I was six!

The sheep looks like a Herdwick – native to the Lake District. Very hardy. Some have darker coats than others.
Your Campine looks lovely!

A sneaky hen and certainly a beauty. As to the sheep, I can’t say I’ve ever seen the likes!

Reliably informed now it is a native of Cumbria, UK – called a Herdwick

Someone on Twitter kindly suggested it was a Herdwick which is native to Cumbria, UK – makes sense as we walked Scarfell that day.

Delightful theme…a Yin-Yang prompt. Beautiful photo. Was recently looking for a good chicken pic for my client’s book. this one is much nicer than the one I found on the Internet. Pretty name, too 🙂

Thanks Jeanne! I’m happy to run around my garden capturing shots of my girls if you need a better one ! Shame I didn’t have legs on this one! I have a collection of 9 different breeds – all sorts of colours 😀
