I was honoured to receive a nomination for the Versatile Blogger Award first from the lovely Norah Colvin and then because I’m late posting out my own nominations, a second time from Teagan Kearney ! Thank you Norah and Teagan – For someone who loves variety, this award feels particularly special, and exciting to pass onto some fantastic bloggers who have posts to suit my mood whenever I browse their blogs.
I was delighted to find WordPress actually run a site for this award, to provide a central locale for the winners and maintain the rules, which are:
- Thank the person who gave you this award.
- Include a link to their blog.
- Next, select 15 excellent blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly.
- Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award – include a link to this site.
- Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.
When you consider nominating a fellow blogger for the Versatile Blogger Award, consider the quality of the writing, the uniqueness of the subjects covered, the level of love displayed in the words on the virtual page. Or, of course, the quality of the photographs and the level of love
I’ve tried hard to nominate people who haven’t already had this award and one or two of these people may have slipped through my net, but hey, if you’re good, you’re good and I want the world to know I think so too! I was gutted to find Teagan had beaten me to some of my absolute favourites Charli Mills, Ruby McConnell, Tui Snider, Ellen Mulholland ! I should have been quicker off the mark – More lessons in procrastination..
Please take some time to visit these great blogs and have a read around – I promise you there’s something for everyone on all of them!

OK, so here goes with:
7 Things About Me
- I’ve always loved thrills and novelty (life without adrenalin is DULL!)
- I push myself to do things that challenge me (I took up rock climbing to conquer a fear of heights – I gave it up after fracturing my neck in an avalanche)
- I don’t eat meat or drink milk, but I eat sustainable fish and my own hens’ eggs.
- I’m an ambivert – smack bang in the middle of you introverts and extraverts.
- I am genuinely ‘Open-Minded’. (We all like to think we are but I am in the upper quartile on the psychometric scale for this one – On the other hand, let’s not discuss ‘Conscientiousness’..!)
- I love animals, birds, trees and all things we share the planet with and am suspicious of people who don’t.
- I believe the greatest gift and honour you can give or receive is listening to someone else’s meaning – And I see sharing these blogs as going a little way towards doing that.

Thank you for this nomination, Lisa, I am highly honoured! And I believe I’ve met the challenge. Indeed the biggest part of it was in nominating 15 others. I’ve spent a good part of the afternoon checking out other blogs, so it has at least broadened my horizons.

I’m realising that I don’t! This particular post took hours to pull together, checking whether people had already been nominated and then linking to them all and posting tags on their blogs. In future I’ll keep it smaller – I need to be writing more!

Hi Lisa,
You have done a mighty job with this post. Thanks for sharing these seven wonderful things about yourself, and the fifteen bloggers to check out. You are very brave and i admire you for it – thrill seeking, sky diving and rock climbing. Don’t like the sound of your avalanche injury! I have never done the roller coaster, thrill-seeking thing. My excuse is that life is always so thrilling I don’t need to do that. But if I was really being honest, fear probably plays a big part. I’m with you on 4, 5, 6 and 7. I love the term ‘ambivert’. It’s better than saying I’m a Gemini. I like to think I’m reasonably open-minded. Sometimes I need to be challenged to see that perhaps I am just one of the ones who think it, but I agree wholeheartedly with number 7. Well done, Lisa. And thank you for sharing! 🙂

Thanks Norah – It’s an unfortunate thing that we become increasingly ‘conservative’ with increasing age. I’m fighting hard not to run on auto-pilot with my thinking and opinions!
PS Are you a Gemini, too?

I know what you mean. A few challenges to the thinking now and then is a good thing. And yes, I am a Gemini – 18th. You too?

I hope you had a wonderful birthday. I have two family members with birthdays that day – a nephew, and my grandchildren’s other grandfather (if that makes sense). I do remember Charli mentioning her birthday. We should have had a big Twitter party for all three! 🙂

Your seven things are awesome (and sound very familiar…especially 2, 4, and 6). I guess I’ll take down my “afraid of heights so went skydiving” one. 😉

No! I love it. I find it amazing I’m drawn to people through blogs and Twitter and end up having unusual things in common – it shows how much of ourselves must come through the written word 😊

So true. Quite a few things you’ve written have amazed me because they are so similar to me or something I’ve experienced/written. My husband said I have a twin.
I feel like some will take this the wrong way so I don’t say it (often) but I don’t trust people who don’t like animals and treat them well. Actually, all living things on our planet. I find animals much more pleasant than most people. 😉 My cousin always says, “If half the people I met were as nice as my dog, the world would be a better place.”

Oh my goodness. What a way to start a Sunday morning. I am so honored you selected me. I just don’t ever know what to do with the awards. I’ve tried to copy and paste them on my site but it never works so I just stopped accepting them. It also shows me I need to read more of many different blogs. As soon as I finally get settled, that will be on the top of my to – do list. I so appreciate you reading as I tend to wonder if I have anything worthy of offering.

Hi Marlene – No pressure to conform from me, although 7 interesting facts we might not guess about you would still be interesting to hear! Meanwhile, just in case you’re still “In search of…” help sticking a blog award onto your widget bar on WordPress – I found the instructions in the following post were really helpful. I printed it off and went step by step and got there first time. Good luck with your move, Lisa xx

Blimey. Anne G did me the same honour last week and, as I said to her, are you sure? I’ve been blogging for the length of a flea’s fart so Is it versatility or some sort of Irritable Blog Syndrome? (sorrow for the scatological allusions) You are so very kind and lovely and stuff and I accept but with a caveat – as I said to Anne, I think I need to wait a while before I nominate 15 bloggers. I’m teasing my way into the blogging community; I still feel a little like a little boy knocking on a strange door and then running away. So many of the people I follow are on your or Anne’s lists already which leaves me with about three left (and two of those have my surname). I will give both you and Anne a shout in a post with a huge thank you; I will do the seven things. But can the other bit slip by perhaps? Do the rules allow for delay?

Damn! Did she get there first! I tried to avoid too many double entries but the 15 nominees is indeed the biggest challenge of this award. I have ‘work’ to do as well as read blogs and it is sometimes hard to keep up with my favourites! Nevertheless – perhaps you could answer in part now, with 7 interesting things about you?! No doubt you’d have me in fits as usual – P-lease !

Geoff: 😀 I’d always wondered how long the length of a flea’s fart was so thank you for that. I’ve been searching through your blog to see your award post–it’s more difficult than it sounds.
Lisa: Anne also honored me last week but like you (and Geoff) I’ve procrastinated a bit. Also, it’s a bit intimidating (although Geoff’s “I still feel a little like a little boy knocking on a strange door and then running away” is a much better way to describe it). I’m getting to it ASAP. My seven things should be up soon. The fifteen bloggers may take some more time.

Lisa, I neglected to comment on your seven items; how interesting to see how you pushed yourself out of your comfort zone. I’m sure you don’t go rummaging around my blog so you may not have seen the poem of my father’s I posted, written in 145 jut before his first parachute jump. He was 18, much the same age as you in that cute photo. Any similar sentiments? http://geofflepard.wordpress.com/2014/06/08/dads-letters-may-to-august-1945/

Waiting to ’emplane’ – thanks for another new word – I chose to go first so I didn’t have to wait as long as whoever went last. On those small planes with a tail prop they stop the engine for you to get out – so you don’t get caught in the slipstream and the prop. I wouldn’t have wanted to be left inside hoping the engine would start again!
(And everyone else was grateful I volunteered to go first!!)
